Mrs. Smith
Meet the instructor behind Door No. 1
Hello, my name is Deanna Smith. I have always had a love for all things art. As a child some of my favorite things included my crayons and any surface I could find to draw on. My father often found me sitting and cutting pieces of paper for reasons I can't even remember, other than to just cut for the sake of cutting. He just shook his head, but later when I secured my first job as an art teacher, he decided I had been preparing for the job since early childhood.
I have been an art educator for 29 years which has overlapped between educating middle school as well as high school students. After retiring from the Texas public school system in 2022 I taught junior and senior high art in a small rural district in Southeast Kansas. I have been a member of the Kansas Art Education Association and remain a member of the Texas Art Education Association.
In May of 2025 I will be exiting my career as a public school art educator. I am excited to begin a new journey as a private art educator serving homeschool students as well as offering adult workshops. I invite you to join me at Door No. 1 Studio and embark upon this journey with me. I look forward to seeing you in the studio.
Art Lessons & Workshops

Homeschool Group Art Lessons
Our elementary group art lessons serve students who are in the 2nd through 5th grades. We begin with the basics by exploring the Elements of Art and build from there.
Our middle school lessons, for 6th through 8th grades, build on the basics and advance to include art processes and techniques.
High school lessons allow 9th through 12th graders to experiment with different art mediums while exploring art processes and techniques.
Group lessons are limited to 4 students per day and time slot. Elementary lessons consist of one 45 minute lesson once a week. Middle school and high school lessons are 60 minutes once a week.

Adult Workshops
We offer a limited number of workshops for those who are still young at heart. We offer creative experiences such as junk journals and art processes and techniques that can be used in junk journals as well as other art works.
Workshops are limited to 4 individuals per workshop. We will strive to offer multiple time slot/days for each workshop if needed.
Additional art techniques and processes will be added for future workshops. So check back often for more creative learning opportunities.
